Position Summary
The Tapered Designer is responsible for creating designs and providing estimates for tapered projects. This role provides onsite support to commercial contractors and sales representatives to ensure that their projects are correctly planned based on the schematics. Additionally, the Tapered Designer may also answer pricing and design questions on all related commercial roofing projects.
We’re looking for self-sufficient, motivated Tapered Designer for our Surrey location at 8183 130th Street who want to help us expand our fast-growing business.
Responsibilities
- Interpret specifications from client documents and create quotes for contract bids and existing clientele.
- Prepare cost estimates and identify materials, labour, and time required for projects by analyzing proposals, specifications, drawings, and related documents.
- Create generic and detailed tapered designs using Taper Plus and AutoCAD.
- Use Plan Room to download information for upcoming projects and create project files.
- Review client documentation and resolve discrepancies in proposals and specifications to ensure an accurate bid.
- Prepare and present quotations including numerical and descriptive information.
- Prioritize workflows taking into consideration urgencies related to bidding and execution phases to ensure that deadlines are met.
- Collaborate with roofers, consultants, architects, coworkers, and other stakeholders to ensure that design changes are appropriately communicated and obtain clarification on projects as needed.
- Visit construction sites to take measurements on roofs and ensure that proper ladder techniques and PPE are used.
- Research and upgrade education as needed for new roofing principles, codes, products, etc.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of combined experience in the roofing or construction industry working in an architectural/structural design or project estimating position.
- Diploma or greater in Construction or Project Management, General Business, Architectural Design, or other related educational experience.
- Knowledge of basic roofing principles, codes, etc. preferred.
- Previous experience with Taper Plus, AutoCAD, and computers preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Able to read and interpret blueprints, contracts, specifications, and drawings.
- Professional communication skills with a proficiency in English, both oral and written, is required.
