Business Relationship Manager

The Business Relationship Manager is accountable to the Director, Application Services to serve as the primary liaison and strategic interface between IT and the Business – which includes a defined portion of the company’s business units, employee-end-users, and internal and external parties – for the application services portfolio for which they are accountable. Morguard’s Application Service Portfolio encompasses enterprise business applications, system-to-system interfaces, information management, data analytics, and reporting services. The successful incumbent will influence both IT Management and the Business through focus on successful delivery of IT’s daily service needs via management of internal staff and/or third-party IT service and technology providers, prioritization, and execution of IT’s projects and shaping the IT strategy.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Strategy and Planning
    Develop a strong understanding of the strategic direction, operational needs, trends, constraints, and opportunities of the business and convey this effectively within IT. Collaborate with business stakeholders and contribute to the opportunity assessment, project proposal, and business case development process by analyzing business value, benefits, risks, and estimated costs. Identify scope, success criteria, and cross-project dependencies. Ensure that projects receive adequate resources/management by following governance processes and procedures.
  2. Operational Management
    Monitor and oversee the successful delivery of IT services to their defined business customers. Manage business demand and assist with project prioritization by focusing on cost/benefit analysis and identifying measurable business value.
  3. Relationships with Internal Parties
    Work with other BRM’s to develop and champion Morguard’s technology standards to ensure that the Application Services team adheres to established policies, procedures and standards (e.g., change management; capacity planning; production readiness reviews; data architecture and data governance standards; application development standards; application delivery and deployment). Facilitate IT communication within the business. Maintain a high degree of visibility within the business, attend business meetings and appropriate management forums, and be a central point of information for all related IT activities. Initiate, foster, and lead partnerships with and between business stakeholders and members of IT. Develop relationships that promote trust and increase efficiency and effectiveness; balance the needs of the business they represent with broader business priorities facilitating alignment between the business and IT strategies and objectives; proactively seek ways to improve collaboration. Work closely with the business leaders to support them through technology planning, advising on how to exploit existing and emerging technologies, and ensuring alignment with the IT strategy.
  4. Information and Data Management
    Work with the Director Application Services, define, build, and maintain the Digital Workplace Strategy to improve employee productivity, collaboration, business processes, and more.
  5. Technical Reporting
    Monitor and report on service levels and project status
  6. .Continuous Improvement
    Envision and influence future IT solutions and capabilities; be a change agent to drive technology related business changes, support solution delivery, and improve the ways of working together to ensure genuine, tangible benefits. Formulate and guide process improvements to services and programs which enhance IT capabilities and effectiveness. Influence the design and development of product roadmaps and solution architecture by providing business perspective, requirements and insights. Act as a sounding board for ideas and approaches to addressing project risks/issues. Act quickly to manage urgent issues and championing them until resolution, escalating when required.
  7. Management and Development of Staff
    Manage people and processes for the application services portfolio for which they are accountable for, including performance evaluations, training, and development recommendations, project planning, hiring, and employee turnover. Ensures the team is consistently delivering products and services up to the expected standards and always working on the highest priority deliverables. Provide on-the-job training for staff to develop their knowledge and experience level.

Minimum Requirements

Skills, Knowledge, Experience and Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Informational Technology, Business Administration, Computer Science, or related field/ equivalent Ed/Exp degree
  • Master’s in Business (MBA), Computer Science (MSCS), Management Information System (MSMIS) or equivalent
  • 7+ years of experience in Information Technology business relationship management, account management, or project management, or other equivalent experience involving Service Support and/or Service Delivery
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience managing a technical or software support team
  • Experience with system design and development methodologies from business requirements analysis through to development and deployment
  • Experience with multiple full project lifecycles from business development to final delivery
  • Requires experience and in-depth knowledge of the business, business requirements, and IT processes
  • Advanced knowledge of database design and queries (SQL, Access)
  • Experience with the Yardi ERP system

Additional Requirements

  • Exposure to the Real Estate industry is essential
  • Project Management certification (PMP) is an asset.
